To get to this stage of the work, it took me 7 weeks of working in the sculpture studio. I have learnt so much from the process and have developed an appreciation for casting that I didn't have before. Heres my documentation of making this cast of a window frame in the form of images and text.
I found this window by a skip, so willingly thrown away by its previous owner. It fit my ideas perfectly but I knew that it would be a challenge. For one, it was way too big to attempt to cast so I knew that it needed to be cut down to a size that was manageable.
At this point, I was incredibly pleased with the success of my clay wall - as none of the hot rubber had leaked out of the sides or collapsed any part of the wall. It was standing strong. A huge extractor fan was placed over the top of the rubber as it cooled, discarding all of the toxic fumes from the room.
